Exploring the Landscape
Going out on an everyday basis isn’t just about getting to your destination. To us it’s what goes on from A to B in the landscape. I will give you an example, we get in the car from Limassol to Nicosia and we may stop 10 times to take snapshots of flowers, trees, shrubs etc… Some people think we’re mad as hatters but that’s what we love to do! Which ever destination we are at, we look around and see whats interesting in that particular space and our cameras and phones go on overdrive.
Tree spotting is one of those things we love to do so today we are introducing to you one of our favourite trees
Tipuana tipu – Rosewood – Pride of Bolivia
Tipuana tipu is native to South America, this tree is beautiful and ornamental, it is semi – evergreen loves full sun and is very hardy. It is used for streetscapes for its open crown which gives lovely shade in the summer months. It is used particularly in Nicosia and Larnaca and all soil types seem to suit it – clay- loamy. When it flowers in May- August the bright yellow flowers are a pleasure to see and its foliage looks superb. It is drought tolerant and likes to be in full sun. Choose a good location in your landscape to plant a Tipuana tree which isn’t close to hardscape materials as the roots can be invasive. Place the tree in a generous open space to be able to expand to its whole glory.
Plant one you won’t regret it! We shall be doing more tree spotting and putting up our suggested trees for the Mediterranean climate. Keep an eye out for these lovely specimen.
